Beirut (ANTARA) - Lebanese authorities have confirmed that the
Hezbollah group has agreed to a United States proposal regarding a
“mutual cessation of attacks” with Israel.

The Lebanese Presidency announced on Monday (1/6), citing the
Lebanese Embassy in Washington, D.C., that this confirmation follows
telephone discussions between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and US
Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The talks addressed the current
situation in Lebanon and various efforts to de-escalate tensions.

According to the embassy, the US proposal calls for a reciprocal halt
to attacks by both parties. Under the draft agreement, Israeli strikes
on the southern outskirts of Beirut would cease. In return, Hezbollah
would refrain from launching attacks into Israeli territory. This
ceasefire framework is intended to eventually expand to cover the entire
territorial region of Lebanon.

The embassy also stated that US President Donald Trump subsequently
informed the Lebanese Ambassador to the US, Nada Hamadeh Mouawad, that
he had secured approval from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
regarding the proposal. Mouawad conveyed the results of the agreement to
Aoun, who then passed the developments on to Hezbollah, according to the
statement. Negotiation meetings scheduled for Tuesday (2/6) and
Wednesday (3/6) are expected to continue the progress achieved thus
far.

Earlier on Monday (1/6), Netanyahu and Israeli Defence Minister
Israel Katz stated they had ordered strikes on Dahieh, the outskirts of
Beirut considered a Hezbollah defence base. This move comes amidst an
increase in rocket and drone launches by Hezbollah towards Israeli
military positions. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed in a
statement on Monday that an Israeli military doctor was killed and seven
other soldiers were wounded due to the impact of two explosive drones
launched simultaneously by Hezbollah.
",
