        "content": "<p>BREBES, KOMPAS.com \u2013 The overflow flooding that inundated the\nnational highway in Brebes for up to six hours during the Eid homecoming\ntraffic has become a red flag for the Ministry of Public Works (PU). In\nresponse, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo conducted an inspection\nof the critical points at the Babakan River and the Pejagan-Ketanggungan\nroad section on Saturday (28\/3\/2026). \u201cThe sedimentation appears to be\nextremely severe at a glance,\u201d Dody stated while surveying the affected\nlocation. Unlike the conventional approach that often starts from the\nupstream area, Dody instructed his team to carry out mitigation in\nreverse: from the estuary towards the upstream. \u201cOur experience in Aceh\nshows that the quickest method is to clean the estuary first. The\ndistance from here to the estuary is not too far. If the estuary is\naddressed, the water can flow more quickly to the sea,\u201d he emphasised.\nDody stressed that cleaning the estuary must be followed by the\nconstruction of jetties or guiding embankments on both the right and\nleft sides. \u201cIt\u2019s not just about cleaning; jetties must be built so that\nthe sediment does not return to the river but is held back by the\njetties. My theory is, if the estuary is sorted, the water flows\nsmoothly. Then we can proceed upstream gradually,\u201d he added. For\ncontext, the Brebes flooding was triggered by the elevation at the\nCisadap Weir reaching +5.50, or 3 metres above normal. This impacted\nseven villages and disrupted the homecoming traffic for six hours.\nTherefore, the Cimanuk Cisanggarung River Basin Organisation (BBWS) has\nprepared a flood control structure scheme that includes detention ponds\nin Padakaton and Kedawung villages. There are nine work packages,\nincluding riverbank reinforcement along 26 kilometres. Head of BBWS\nCimanuk-Cisanggarung, Dwi Agus Kuncoro, explained that the total budget\namounts to Rp 270 billion. \u201cThis Rp 270 billion budget is for river\nnormalisation packages plus concreting (lining). If talking about the\nentire packages, they may be completed by the end of 2028. However,\nspecifically for the estuary sector, we target completion by the end of\n2026,\u201d Dwi reported to the Minister of Public Works. Dody gave a tight\ndeadline for the estuary work so that the mitigation effects are felt\nduring the rainy season at the end of 2026.
