        "content": "<p>'Leaders should come from different groups'<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Indonesia's President and vice president should come<br>\nfrom different ethnic groups to ensure the leadership reflected<br>\nthe country's cultural diversity, constitutional law expert Sri<br>\nSoemantri said on Thursday<\/p>\n<p>This idea could be incorporated into the amended Constitution<br>\nas part of its revision process, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Soemantri, who chairs an ad-hoc team assessing the amended<br>\nconstitution, said that a diverse nation like Indonesia needed<br>\ndiverse representation to keep the nation intact.<\/p>\n<p>\"We do not want the position of the President and the vice<br>\npresident to be dominated by one racial group,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>All five of Indonesia's presidents since independence on Aug.<br>\n17, 1945, have been identified with one ethnic group.<\/p>\n<p>Founding president Sukarno, whose parents were Javanese and<br>\nBalinese, considered himself Javanese.<\/p>\n<p>Soeharto and Abdurrahman Wahid are Javanese.
