Lawyers for an Australian woman sentenced to 20 years in jail for
\nsmuggling drugs into the Indonesian island of Bali filed an
\nappeal on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The appeal to the Bali High Court comes as public outrage
\nbrews in Australia against the conviction of Schapelle Corby, 27.
\nOn Wednesday, Indonesia's embassy in Canberra was shut after
\nreceiving an envelope containing a suspicious powder.<\/p>\n
\"We have filed the appeal to the court,\" lawyer Erwin Siregar
\ntold Reuters by telephone from the holiday island.<\/p>\n
\"We are studying the entire verdict before we submit all the
\nother documents in two weeks.\"<\/p>\n
He gave no further details.<\/p>\n
Corby was sentenced last Friday for smuggling 4.1 kg (9 lbs)
\nof marijuana into Bali last October.<\/p>\n
She says she is innocent and that the drugs found in her
\nsurfboard bag by a Bali customs officer were planted there by
\nsomeone at an Australian airport. Newspaper polls show 90 percent
\nof Australians believe Corby is innocent.<\/p>",
