Advocate Imamudin has filed a request to become a Related Party in\ncase concerning the formal review of Law Number 5 of 2026 at the\nConstitutional Court. The case involves a formal challenge to the third\namendment of the Police Law.<\/p>\n
Imamudin\u2019s legal counsel, Putri Addina from VST and Partners, stated\nthat the new Police Law actually accommodates several demands for police\nreform. These include strengthening the principles of professionalism,\nproportionality, transparency, and accountability, as well as enhancing\ntechnology-based oversight functions.<\/p>\n
The legal team argued that the new regulation also strengthens the\nNational Police Commission (Kompolnas) and mandates that the police\neducation curriculum includes human rights, democracy, and humanist\nprinciples. Consequently, they believe the petitioners\u2019 claims regarding\nprocedural bad faith in the law\u2019s formation are unfounded.<\/p>\n
Putri Addina further explained the close link between the Police Law\nand the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) within an integrated\ncriminal justice system. She noted that the new KUHAP regulates\nprocedural law and investigative authority, while the revised Police Law\ngoverns institutional aspects, oversight, and accountability for those\nauthorities. Cancelling the Police Law formally, she argued, would leave\nsignificant investigative powers without adequate institutional control\nmechanisms.<\/p>\n
