The United States and Israel have launched coordinated strikes on Iran's Arak nuclear facility, specifically targeting a uranium processing plant in Ardakan, Yazd Province, amid escalating regional tensions. Iranian officials reported no casualties due to prior security measures, while the Israeli Defense Forces issued evacuation warnings before commencing attacks on Iranian military infrastructure. This assault follows previous strikes and raises concerns over Iran's nuclear programme, particularly the heavy-water reactor at Arak, which has long been a point of international contention due to its potential for plutonium production.

A series of recent attacks by the United States (US) and Israeli
militaries in Iranian territory continues. The joint strikes by the two
countries now target Iran’s Arak nuclear facility.

“The plant in Ardakan, located in Yazd Province, was targeted in an
attack a few minutes ago by the American-Zionist enemy,” stated an
Iranian official, as reported by AFP on Friday (27/3/2026).

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation said the attacked facility is a
uranium processing site. The strike occurred today local time.

According to CNN, an official in Iran’s Markazi Province claimed the
attack was carried out by US and Israeli forces. He stated that there
were no casualties due to prior security actions.

This reported strike comes shortly after the Israeli military issued
an evacuation warning to Iranian civilians in the northwest of Arak city
and the Khir Abad Industrial Zone, areas near the nuclear facility.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement on X in Farsi,
warning civilians that they would strike Iranian military infrastructure
in the area, without specifying the exact target.

The IDF later stated that the Israeli Air Force “has begun striking
infrastructure belonging to the Iranian terror regime across Iran,”
based on Israeli intelligence.

Iran’s Arak heavy-water reactor was still under construction as of
last year, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency
(IAEA).

The construction plans for the facility previously raised concerns in
Israel and the West, as heavy water can be used to produce plutonium—a
pathway to potential nuclear bombs. Under the now-defunct Iran nuclear
deal, Tehran agreed in 2015 to modify the construction plans for the
facility to close off the plutonium pathway.

In June 2025, Israel attacked the reactor, which was still under
construction, at the Arak complex during the 12-day war with Iran. At
that time, the IAEA said the reactor was not operational and contained
no nuclear material.
",
