Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD's factory in Subang industrial estate is progressing significantly, with the main building structure already standing despite remaining finishing touches. The 108-hectare facility is expected to begin mass production in the first quarter, though the company has not yet announced an official launch date or inaugural production ceremony. This represents one of the largest automotive investments to enter the Subang industrial zone in recent years.

Construction of the electric vehicle factory belonging to the Chinese
company in the Subang industrial zone continues to show significant
progress. The industrial zone, managed by Suryacipta, reports that
construction of the production facility has been proceeding massively
and the main building structure is already complete.

Binawati Dewi, General Manager of Sales & Tenant Relations at
Suryacipta, stated that the physical construction of the BYD electric
vehicle factory is already clearly visible on site, though completion
has not yet been fully realised.

“Yes, but it seems not 100% fully finished yet. But physically it’s
there and the construction is already very intensive,” said Dewi in
Jakarta, Friday (13 March 2025).

The progress of factory construction is particularly evident in the
main building structure that has already risen to considerable
height.

“If you go there directly, you can clearly see the progress. The
building is already complete, and even the office has already been
constructed at considerable height,” she said.

The factory stands on a fairly extensive plot of land with nearly the
entire area being utilised for production facility development.

“The land area is approximately 108 hectares. From what I saw in the
field, the land is truly being built up completely,” Dewi explained.

Despite rapid construction, the mass production phase of electric
vehicles is estimated not to commence in the very near term. Dewi stated
that production processes are still awaiting completion of the final
stage of construction as well as an inauguration ceremony agenda.

She added that global automotive companies typically hold special
events when local production begins.

“Just wait, usually if there’s a first production or launching of
local production there’s definitely a ceremony,” she said.

Meanwhile, the original target that had circulated suggested that
local production was expected to begin in the first quarter.

“What I heard was the target was in the first quarter. But I haven’t
yet seen any news regarding inaugural production,” said Dewi.

The presence of the production facility represents one of the largest
automotive investments entering the Subang industrial zone in recent
years.

“In terms of land size, it’s indeed very large. A single factory can
be more than 100 hectares,” she noted.
",
