Indonesia's state-owned banks—BRI, BNI, and Bank Mandiri—have maintained their deposit interest rates unchanged entering August 2026, despite a 100 basis point rate hike by Bank Indonesia in June. The stability offers a safe haven for savers amid global monetary tightening and rupiah depreciation, with rates ranging from 2.25% to 3.50% depending on the bank and tenor.

Entering August 2026, bank time deposits remain one of the favoured
investment instruments for Indonesians who prioritise security and
certainty of returns amid an increasingly real higher-for-longer
era.

Rate hikes by the European Central Bank, the Bank of Japan and
several other central banks are expected to drive an overall upward
trend in global interest rates should inflation continue to climb.

Based on the latest monitoring of the respective banks’ websites as
of Monday (2/8/2026), state-owned banks (BUMN) such as Bank Rakyat
Indonesia (BRI), Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) and Bank Mandiri have
maintained their deposit rates without any change from recent
periods.

These offers have remained unchanged since Bank Indonesia’s decision
in June to raise rates by an aggregate of 100 basis points, one of the
most extreme rate increases in the central bank’s history.

That tightening is expected to squeeze banking liquidity as the
Rupiah continues to weaken and yields on government bonds (SBN) rise,
driven by higher global oil prices following the Iran–US war, whose
planned peace settlement ultimately fell through.

Deposits are also considered highly safe from market fluctuations,
with customer funds guaranteed by the Deposit Insurance Corporation
(LPS) at a coverage rate currently set at 3.75%, up from 3.50%
previously.

Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Deposit Rates

Bank Rakyat Indonesia, or BRI, offers deposit accounts with an
initial deposit starting from Rp 1 million via internet banking, and Rp
10 million if opened at a physical branch.

As of August 2026, BRI is recorded as offering fairly attractive
returns, particularly for short-term placements. For a one-month tenor,
the interest rate stands at 3.25%, depending on the deposit amount.

The highest rate is offered on the three-month tenor, reaching 3.50%
across the board. For medium to long terms of 6, 12, 24 and 36 months,
BRI sets a constant rate of 3.00%.

Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) Deposit Rates

For those interested in placing funds with Bank Negara Indonesia, or
BNI, the minimum deposit requirement is quite affordable, starting from
Rp 5 million.

BNI’s deposit rate policy as of August 2026 shows a uniform
percentage across all deposit amount categories. BNI sets a base rate of
2.25% for one-month placements.

That figure rises to 2.50% for three-month tenors. The maximum yield
at BNI is offered for six-month deposits, reaching 2.75%.

Meanwhile, for tenors of 12 and 24 months, the rate returns to a
stable 2.50%.

Bank Mandiri Deposit Rates

Bank Mandiri also provides easy options for opening deposit accounts.
Placements can start from Rp 1 million via the Livin’ by Mandiri app, or
Rp 10 million for customers depositing directly at a branch office.

Based on monitoring at the end of this month, Bank Mandiri has kept
its rate at 2.25% for short-term deposits of one and three months.

For customers planning longer placements of 6, 12 and 24 months, the
bank offers a fixed return of 2.50%, applicable uniformly across all
deposit amounts.

Stability of Banking Investment Ahead

The stability of deposit rate offers by these state-owned banks is
seen as strengthening the appeal of the domestic banking sector in the
face of global uncertainty.

By prioritising the security of funds through LPS protection and
returns that are fixed from the outset of the agreement, deposits at
BUMN banks remain a reliable asset-protection instrument.

Analysts expect the banking sector to continue adjusting its interest
rate strategies in line with inflation trends and market liquidity in
the second quarter of 2026, so customers will continue to have safe
financial management options for short to medium-term needs.
",
