Last meeting for ISSD kicks off<\/p>\n

Over 100 participants started on Thursday a two-day preparatory
\nmeeting for the Indonesian Summit on Sustainable Development
\n(ISSD) to be held early next year.<\/p>\n
State Minister for the Environment Nabiel Makarim said that
\nthe preparatory meeting was important to formulate strategic
\nmeasures on sustainable development in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\"Based on the World Summit on Sustainable Development in
\nJohannesburg, South Africa last year, we should resolve the non-
\nsustainability issue at the local level by involving various
\nstakeholders,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The minister said Indonesia had suffered greatly because of
\nthe non-sustainable development approach that had resulted in
\nnatural disasters and other environmental degradation.<\/p>\n
\"In addition, exploitation of natural resources only benefits
\na few people,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Youth and children, women, farmers, businessmen, academicians,
\nindigenous people, non-government organizations and local
\ngovernment are participating in the preparatory meeting.<\/p>",
