Several others were\ninjured when security forces opened fire to disperse hundreds of\npro-Iran demonstrators who attempted to storm the consulate on Sunday, 1\nMarch 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed told Al Jazeera that at least nine\nbodies had been brought to Karachi\u2019s civil hospital. Video footage\nshared online and verified by Al Jazeera showed injured persons being\ncarried by people at the scene. Other images depicted demonstrators\nattempting to breach the US consular building located on Mai Kolachi\nRoad in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Large-scale protest actions also occurred in various other regions of\nPakistan. Demonstrators set fire to the United Nations office building\nin Skardu, in northern Pakistan, in the Gilgit Baltistan region whose\npopulation is predominantly Shia Muslim, known for its popular Himalayan\npeaks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA large number of demonstrators gathered outside the UN office in\nthe British territory and set the building on fire,\u201d said local\ngovernment spokesperson Shabbir Mir, speaking to Reuters, adding that no\ndeaths had been reported.<\/p>\n<p>In Lahore city centre, hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the\nUS consulate, though there were no reports of violence. \u201cSome protesters\nattempted to damage the security gate, which is hundreds of metres from\nthe consulate. However, police stopped them without using force,\u201d said\nwitness Aqeel Raza, speaking to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrations are expected to occur near the diplomatic zone housing\nthe US embassy in the capital Islamabad on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Protests over Khamenei\u2019s assassination also erupted in various other\nlocations worldwide, including Iraq, Morocco, and Indian-administered\nKashmir. Pro-Iran demonstrators gathered outside the Green Zone in\nIraq\u2019s capital Baghdad, where the US embassy is located.<\/p>",
