Laos limits travel ahead of ASEAN meet<\/p>\n
LAOS: Laos will restrict travel to its capital Vientiane and
\nclose schools and government offices for security reasons when it
\nhosts a major meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian
\nNations next week.<\/p>\n
Laos will host the annual meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers,
\nfollowed by talks with the group's major diplomatic partners and
\na meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum, the region's main security
\nforum, from July 24 to July 29.<\/p>\n
The school and office closings to facilitate the movement of
\ndelegates to the meeting were announced by Lao State Radio.
\nTravel restrictions were listed in a circular dated July 14 and
\ndistributed to the diplomatic community in Vientiane by the
\nMinistry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
The regulations, covering July 20 through July 30, include
\nbanning ordinary foreign tourists from entering or transiting
\nVientiane, and forbidding foreign journalists without official
\npermission from the ministry to enter the country.<\/p>\n
Drivers and trucks carrying goods from nearby Thailand, as
\nwell as for other persons, such as representatives of
\ninternational organizations and investors seeking to enter the
