        "content": "<p>Language and discipline<\/p>\n<p>From Pikiran Rakyat<\/p>\n<p>In the framework of our effort to uphold discipline in using<br>\nthe national language, I would like to put forward some<br>\nsuggestions.<\/p>\n<p>It should be realized that mistakes in spelling are quite<br>\noften found in the mass media and in subtitles shown on TV, as<br>\nwell as in other usages. For that matter, I want to suggest that<br>\nlanguage watchdogs should be created. These agents would have the<br>\ntask of correcting and warning people, bodies and other users of<br>\nBahasa Indonesia if they use it incorrectly or violate the<br>\nlanguage rules.<\/p>\n<p>I have come to this idea after reading an article in this<br>\npaper titled Kemiskinan, antara realitas teoritik dan .... What<br>\nsort of loan word is \"teoritik\"? I can give some examples of loan<br>\nwords whose origins can be traced to English, such as politik,<br>\ndiplomatik, medis and so on. But not \"teoritik\". There is no such<br>\nEnglish word as \"theoritic\".<\/p>\n<p>Many other foreign words are not properly adopted into Bahasa<br>\nIndonesia. Why should \"developer\" be translated into<br>\n\"pengembang\". It would be more appropriate and also familiar to<br>\ntranslate it into \"pembangun pemukiman\". Also \"real estate\"<br>\nbecomes \"real estat\". How do you pronounce this word? Why<br>\nshouldn't they make it \"ril estet\"? Then \"property\" is changed<br>\ninto \"properti\". Why not \"propertas\", to be consistent with<br>\nearlier adoptions (universitas, fakultas, prioritas)? \"Mall\" is<br>\nunnecessarily adopted into \"Mal\". This will only cause confusion,<br>\nas we have \"malpraktek\", \"malfungsi\", etc.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, I would also like to suggest that \"x\" be adopted into<br>\nthe Indonesian alphabet (spelling) to replace \"ks\" in ekstra,<br>\neksklusif, taksi and so on.
