        "content": "<p>The Language Development and Fostering Agency (Badan Bahasa) has\nstated that Indonesian language learning for foreign speakers (BIPA) is\nnow present in 61 countries. Head of the Language Agency Hafidz Muksin,\nin Ungaran, Semarang Regency, on Wednesday, said his institution is\ncommitted to facilitating Indonesian language teaching for foreign\nspeakers by providing BIPA instructors, both offline and online. \u201cAt\npresent, 61 countries already have BIPA programmes, with more than 770\nBIPA institutions, whether organised by Indonesian embassies,\nuniversities, or other bodies,\u201d he said. This was conveyed during the\n2026 International Conference of the Association of Indonesian Language\nand Literature Lecturers (Adobsi), themed \u201cTransformation of Indonesian\nLanguage and Literature in Education and Technology: Interdisciplinary\nPerspectives\u201d, at the Central Java Language Office. He mentioned that\nthe Language Agency annually dispatches BIPA instructors who are\nrigorously selected in accordance with the Indonesian National Work\nCompetency Standards (SKKNI) for teachers. \u201cThis means that those\nselected are genuinely qualified to become BIPA instructors,\u201d he stated.\nBeyond instructors, he noted, teaching modules have also been prepared\nby the Language Agency, adapting to technological developments through\nthe BIPA Daring online platform. \u201cWe are continuously improving,\nupdating, and completing these teaching modules, concerning their\nstandards, quality, and varieties,\u201d he said. According to him, the\nLanguage Agency cooperates with the Affiliation of Indonesian Language\nInstructors and Activists for Foreign Speakers (APPBIPA) to enhance\nBIPA, partnering with universities both in Indonesia and abroad. He\nnoted that global enthusiasm for learning Indonesian is growing,\nevidenced by Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, having opened an\nIndonesian language and literature study programme. \u201cIn 2025, in the\nfirst semester alone, the inaugural class attracted over 300 students\nregistering for the Indonesian language programme. This shows how\nIndonesian is increasingly becoming a global language,\u201d he said. Looking\nahead, he stated, the Language Agency together with APPBIPA will\ncontinue collaborating to add more target countries for BIPA, so that\nthe Indonesian language becomes ever more global. \u201cCumulatively, we hope\nfor at least three or four more countries running BIPA this year. We are\npursuing the latest target countries, with support from universities and\nforeign students studying in Indonesia,\u201d he said. Additionally, Hafidz\nadded that Indonesian has now become an official language at UNESCO\nsessions and the 57th official language of Vatican News, a religious\nmedia outlet reaching all Catholics worldwide. \u201cThis means global\naudiences who regularly view news, appeals, and calls from the Pope are\nnow familiar with the Indonesian language.
