A landslide triggered by heavy rain has blocked the main road connecting Maros and Bone regencies in South Sulawesi, causing a 2-kilometre traffic jam in both directions. Motorists are stranded, with some opting for longer alternative routes, while police and authorities deploy heavy machinery to clear the debris and restore access.

A landslide has occurred in the Camba area of Kappang, which is the
main route connecting Maros Regency and Bone Regency in South Sulawesi.
The incident has resulted in the road being blocked by soil and rocks,
leading to long traffic jams for vehicles from both directions. “The
soil and rock materials covering the road have caused vehicle queues to
stretch for approximately 2 kilometres from both directions,” said
Jusman, a motorist from Bone Regency, on Sunday (29/3/2026). He
explained that the landslide was triggered by heavy rain that lashed the
area from morning to afternoon. The conditions made the soil on the
hillside unstable, leading to a land shift that blocked the main
inter-regional road. As a result, numerous motorists, both two-wheeled
and four-wheeled, were forced to stop and wait for the landslide debris
to be cleared. Some motorists even chose to find alternative routes,
even if it meant a longer journey. Police officers along with relevant
agencies immediately went to the location to manage traffic flow and
assist with the evacuation process. Several heavy machines have also
been deployed to accelerate the clearing of the landslide materials so
that the route can be reopened to vehicles as soon as possible.
",
