Saleh said yesterday that the number of<br>\ncases of land grabbing in the province has increased in the last<br>\ntwo years.<\/p>\n<p>\"The increasing number of cases of land grabbing follows the<br>\nsoaring land prices in the province and rising demand for land<br>\nfor development projects,\" Rutny told Antara.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the increasing number of land disputes started in<br>\n1990 when a square meter of land cost only Rp 5,000 ($2.2).<br>\nCurrently, the price is Rp 20,000 per meter.<\/p>\n<p>The local office of the land agency issued 25,000 land titles<br>\nlast year, almost a 50 percent increase from 1993, when it issued<br>\n16,000 titles.(imn)<\/p>",
