Land appropriation to be checked<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Deputy Governor Idroes said on Wednesday that he
\nwill check reports of improper land appropriation by a developer
\nin Kebayoran Lama Selatan subdistrict, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"I will ask the City Planning Office about the matter, and
\ntake action against the developer if found guilty of violating
\nthe regulation by appropriating the wrong locations,\" Idroes
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He reiterated that the city administration will not hesitate
\nin taking stern measures against any company failing to abide by
\nthe laws.<\/p>\n
PT AW, a private developer, was issued a permit to appropriate
\nand use 94,650 square meters of land in Kebayoran Lama Selatan
\nsubdistrict, South Jakarta, for the construction of apartment and
\nshopping mall projects.<\/p>\n
But the developer is reportedly appropriating about seven
\nhectares of land in Kebayoran Lama Utara subdistrict and has done
\nnothing at the proposed project site.<\/p>\n
Ashari, a staff member of Kebayoran Lama Utara subdistrict
\noffice, confirmed the appropriation of seven hectares of land,
\nconsisting of two neighborhood communities in the subdistrict.<\/p>\n
\"The developer paid Rp 600,000 (US$272) per square meter to
\nappropriate the land,\" Ashari said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, secretary of Kebayoran Lama Selatan subdistrict
\nIshak Firdaus said that to date there has been no sign of when
\nthe land for the proposed projects will be appropriated. \"There
\nis no plan yet to build the apartments or shopping mall,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
South Jakarta Mayor Pardjoko told reporters on Wednesday that
\nthe details of the problem must first be looked into, whether
\nthere is a typing error in the permit or if it is a case of
\nmistaken location on the developer's part.<\/p>\n
\"The mayoralty cannot do anything about the matter because the
\npermit was issued by city hall, while the residents whose lands
\nhave been appropriated have not filed any complaints,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that based on the permit, the developer is
\nallowed to negotiate compensation with the residents and the
\nmayoralty can only interfere if there is a dispute or the
\nresidents complain about the compensation.<\/p>\n
\"On the other hand, there is a trend in society in which they
\nhappily accept the compensation because it is giving them
\nadvantages. Why should the mayoralty interfere if all parties are
\nhappy with the deal?\" Pardjoko asked. (yns)<\/p>",
