Lampung settlers resettled<\/p>\n
BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Hundreds, possibly thousands, of
\nfamilies which have been given plots for housing and farming in
\nvarious transmigration camps in the province have abandoned the
\nfacilities and resettled in West Kalimantan and Irian Jaya.<\/p>\n
Commission I of the Lampung Legislative Assembly said many of
\nthe facilities provided at the transmigration camps have been
\nleft neglected or sold to third parties.<\/p>\n
Head of Lampung Transmigration Office Saefuddin Hasan
\nexpressed surprise at the suggestion, which was made during a
\nmeeting with members of the commission. Saefuddin said there
\ncould be one or two cases but doubted whether the number would
\nreach hundreds.<\/p>\n
The commission members said they made their statement after
\nmeeting with village heads in Blambangan Umpu district in North
\nLampung regency.<\/p>\n
Bahruddin Matondang, a commission member, said he feared that
\nthere could be a syndicate organizing the moves, buying up the
\nneglected land at bargain prices and then reselling it for a
