Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal has invited the Indonesian Association of Livestock Engineers and Graduates (ISPI) in the province to serve as a strategic partner in enhancing downstream activities in the livestock sector, aiming to bolster food security and regional economic growth. Highlighting Lampung's vast agricultural land and its role as a major livestock producer, the governor outlined plans to install nearly 200 corn dryers in production villages this year, scaling up to 500 units by 2027-2028, to reduce distribution costs and foster local feed industries based on agricultural waste. This initiative supports national goals for superior human resources by increasing protein consumption and promoting sustainable innovation in livestock farming towards Indonesia's Golden 2045 vision.

Governor of Lampung, Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, has invited the
Indonesian Association of Livestock Engineers and Graduates (ISPI) in
Lampung Province to become a strategic partner of the regional
government in strengthening downstream activities in the livestock
sector to support food security and regional economic growth.

This invitation was conveyed during his attendance at the
Installation of the ISPI Lampung Provincial Board for the 2026–2031
Period, combined with an interactive discussion themed ‘Livestock
Downstreaming Towards Lampung’s Food Security in Supporting National
Strategic Programmes’ at the Ballroom of Aston Hotel on Saturday, 9 May
2026.

“On behalf of the Provincial Government of Lampung, I extend
congratulations and best wishes to all the newly installed ISPI Lampung
Provincial Board members. I hope this board not only serves as a
professional forum for livestock engineers and graduates but also
becomes a strategic partner of the regional government in building a
more advanced, modern, independent, and competitive livestock sector in
Lampung,” he stated.

Rahmat assessed that the livestock sector holds a strategic position
in supporting Lampung’s economic development. With a land area of 3.3
million hectares and the majority of the population depending on
agriculture and its derivatives, Lampung is considered to have great
potential to become a national food powerhouse.

“About 60 percent of Lampung’s population depends on the agricultural
sector. The abundance of agricultural commodities ensures plentiful feed
availability and continues to drive investment growth in the livestock
sector,” he said.

He explained that Lampung is currently one of the largest
livestock-producing regions in Indonesia. However, he believes the
sector still needs strengthening through downstreaming and improvements
in trade systems so that economic added value can be enjoyed by local
communities. He highlighted the still high distribution costs due to an
inefficient supply chain, particularly in the distribution of corn as a
raw material for animal feed.

“Corn from various areas in Lampung is transported wet to South
Lampung for drying, then the feed products are sent back to the regions.
This results in high costs and burdens farmers. Therefore, in the
future, we will build corn drying systems in villages so that
downstreaming can be carried out directly in the areas,” he
clarified.

As a concrete step, the Provincial Government of Lampung is
implementing the Desaku Maju Programme by building dryers or corn dryers
in production centre villages. This year, the provincial government
targets distributing nearly 200 dryer units and will increase it to 500
units in 2027-2028 in every village.

According to Rahmat, the presence of village dryers will open
opportunities for the emergence of SME-based animal feed industries,
reduce production costs, and improve the welfare of farmers and
livestock breeders.

“We want affordable feed based on local raw materials. Agricultural
waste can be utilised as animal feed. If this succeeds and is replicated
in hundreds of villages, economic growth will move faster,” he
stated.

On that occasion, Rahmat also emphasised the importance of increasing
protein consumption among the public as part of efforts to create
superior human resources towards Golden Indonesia 2045. He noted that
although Lampung is one of the national protein suppliers, the protein
consumption rate among Lampung’s people is still below the national
average. Therefore, he asked ISPI to help the government improve human
resource quality through strengthening the livestock sector. “Protein is
not just about food, but an investment in human resource quality. We
want Lampung’s children to grow healthy, intelligent, and productive,”
he said.

In addition, he invited ISPI to actively support livestock research
and innovation, from developing local feed, processing livestock
products, to providing technological assistance to breeders.

“ISPI must become the regional government’s scientific partner,
helping map livestock potentials, assisting breeders with cultivation
and processing technologies, maintaining food safety and halal
standards, and serving as the engine of innovation for Lampung’s
livestock sector,” he asserted.

In closing, Rahmat invited all elements, including ISPI, to jointly
build Lampung through sustainable agriculture and livestock sectors.
“Let us partner together and become strategic partners to grow Lampung’s
economy for a better future for our children and grandchildren.”
",
