Lamongan, East Java \u2014 The Regent of Lamongan, Yuhronur Efendi, has\nproposed implementing weather modification operations to accelerate\nefforts to address flooding that continues to affect dozens of villages\nin the region.<\/p>\n
The proposal was submitted during an audience with the East Java\nRegional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and Indonesia\u2019s Meteorology,\nClimatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at the BMKG Juanda office in\nSurabaya.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are proposing that weather modification operations be conducted\nin Lamongan, particularly in areas with significant water inundation, so\nthat conditions improve rapidly and residents can resume their\nactivities,\u201d the regent stated in Lamongan on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He explained that flooding in Lamongan has persisted for\napproximately four months and has affected 44 villages across five\ndistricts. In several locations, water levels continue to rise.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Head of the East Java BMKG, Taufiq Hermawan, announced\nthat weather modification operations are planned to commence on 16 March\n2026 as part of hydrometeorological disaster mitigation efforts.<\/p>\n
He added that the implementation of weather modification will take\ninto account atmospheric dynamics that are continuously monitored by\nBMKG. Should conditions permit, the operation can be conducted in the\nLamongan region to help reduce rainfall intensity.<\/p>\n
