Laksamana fires 4 PLN directors<\/p>\n

The government announced on Monday a mass dismissal of top
\nmanagers and organizational restructuring at state-owned
\nelectricity company PLN amid mounting public criticism that the
\ncompany was woefully inefficient.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, the current PLN president Eddie Widiono Suwondho
\nretained his post, but four of the company's five directors were
\nreplaced.<\/p>\n
Finance director Parno Isworo, who had also survived previous
\nmanagement shakeups, managed to retain his post again this time.<\/p>\n
The dismissal decision was signed by State Minister of State
\nEnterprises Laksamana Sukardi on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The four outgoing company directors are planning director
\nHardiv Harris S., operations director Bambang Hermiyanto Priyadi,
\nmarketing and distribution director Tunggono and personnel and
\norganizational director Azwani Sjech Umar.<\/p>\n
The government also restructured PLN's organization by
\nomitting the planning division and introducing the generation and
\nprimary energy division.<\/p>\n
Ali Herman Ibrahim was named as the director for the new
\ndivision.<\/p>\n
The three other new faces include Herman Darnel as
\ntransmission and distribution director (also a newly created
\npost), Sunggu Anwar Aritonang as commercial and customer service
\ndirector (new post), and Djuanda Nugraha Ibrahim as the personnel
\nand organizational director.<\/p>\n
Eddie said that the change in the structure of PLN's
\norganization was aimed at improving efficiency, but he gave few
\ndetails of how that would be achieved.<\/p>\n
"Having created the generation and primary energy division,
\nPLN can now focus more on how to improve efficiency in the
\nprovision of fuel for its power plants," Eddie told reporters
\nafter attending the inauguration ceremony of the new directors at
\nthe office of the state minister of state enterprises.<\/p>\n
Fuel costs has been the major production cost for PLN in
\nproducing electricity power.<\/p>\n
According to PLN's master plan, it is estimated that the
\ncompany will spend some Rp 34 trillion (US$3.82 billion), out of
\ntotal Rp 65 trillion budgeted for this year, in fuel costs alone.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Roeswijaya, a deputy at the office of the state
\nminister of state enterprises, denied rumors that the major shake
\nup was a sudden decision, saying that it had been planned two
\nyears ago.<\/p>",
