Lake Toba lures visitors<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Ajibata shore of Lake Toba, North Sumatra, will
\nbe promoted as a major tourist attraction in the province in a
\nthree-month cultural and sports festival, the Lake Toba Samosir
\nIsland Care Foundation said.<\/p>\n
The Ajibata tourism extravaganza will be opened by North
\nSumatra Governor Tengku Rizal Nurdin on Oct. 27, foundation
\nchairman Tonggam Gultom said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The shore, formerly covered with coarse brush and shrubs, has
\nbeen cleared to reveal its beautiful sands, he said.<\/p>\n
Recreational sport competitions will also be held, including
\nfor speedboats, jet ski, canoe, kayak and a 500 meter run.<\/p>\n
He added that the festival would also feature local
\ntraditional dances and music.<\/p>\n
The executive director of the foundation, Johnson Harianja,
\nsaid the foundation was organizing a cultural night of North
\nSumatran dances and music to be performed on Oct. 16 at the Grand
\nMelia Hotel in Jakarta to promote the festival.<\/p>\n
\"We will recruit actors and actresses as well as singers from
\nNorth Sumatra to join the tourist promotional campaign as their
\ncontribution to the development of their home province,\" Harianja
