Lake Tempe to be rehabilitated<\/p>\n
MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: State Minister for the Environment
\nNabiel Makarim is scheduled to announce the rehabilitation of
\nLake Tempe in Wajo regency, South Sulawesi, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Abdul Rachman, chairman of the Save Lake Tempe organizing
\ncommittee, said in Makassar on Monday the meeting on Tuesday also
\nwould establish a forum for Lake Tempe's rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
The lake, on which the majority of local farmers and fishermen
\nrely, is increasingly threatened by sedimentation from several
\nnearby rivers, notably Bila to the north and Walanae to the
\nsouth.<\/p>\n
According to Rachman, the lake, along with Lake Sidenreng and
\nLake Buaya, has seen fish production decline from 30,000 to
\n35,000 tons in the 1960s to 17,000 tons a year today as a result

Jambi to launch reforestation campaign<\/p>\n
JAMBI, Jambi: The province of Jambi will fight illegal logging
\nin the region by launching a reforestation campaign, which will
\nbe focused on the province's national parks.<\/p>\n
Tanjung Jabung Barat regency, some 200 kilometers from Jambi,
\nis pioneering the drive with airborne rubber tree seed sowing,
\nwhich for the moment is focused on national parks vulnerable to

Jambi Governor Zulkifli Nurdin said in Sri Agung village in

"But international circles cannot just blame the region as
\nlong as the central government continues to grant forest
\nconcessions and timber utilization permits, which are prone to

E. Nusa Tenggara resources on display<\/p>\n
ATAMBUA, East Nusa Tenggara: East Nusa Tenggara will put its
\nsea resources under the spotlight at an exhibition of marine
\npotential and coastal zone development at the Jakarta Convention
\nCenter in February.<\/p>\n
Bria Yohanes, regent of Belu, one of the province's marine
\nresources-rich areas, said in Atambua on Monday the regency's
\nnorthern and southern waters were teeming with various species of
\nfish, shellfish and other mollusks.<\/p>\n
Data on the region's marine resources, fish potential, periods
\nof fish migration and estimated quantities of fish and mollusks
\nwill be among the highlights of the province's display.<\/p>\n
Yohanes said the marine riches in his area traditionally had
\nonly been exploited by local fishermen, so the Jakarta event was
\nhoped to draw investors and boost the fishery business in this

Illegal timber trade foiled in Sampit<\/p>\n
SAMPIT, Central Kalimantan: The Central Kalimantan Police
\nseized six trucks carrying illegally cut logs and processed wood
\nin Pundu Pelantaran, Kotawaringin Timur regency, early on Monday
\nmorning.<\/p>\n
The trucks, which did not have proper documents, and truck
\ndrivers are being held by the Kotawaringin Timur Police in Sampit
\nfor further investigation, according to regency police chief Adj.
\nSr. Comr. Petrus Hardono.<\/p>\n
Four of the trucks were carrying over 32,000 m3 of processed
\nkruing wood, while the other two were transporting about 9,000 m3
\nof logs.<\/p>\n
Petrus Hardono said the regency police would be intensifying
\ntheir antismuggling operations in response to a recent surge in
