Labor conditions in Indonesia<\/p>\n
In response to an article in The Jakarta Post of April 28,
\n1995, entitled RI should Improve labor conditions: WB, with
\ncomments made by Nisha Agrawal, the World Bank economist, I would
\nbe pleased to submit the following information:<\/p>\n
1. Implementation of the right to organize in Indonesia is
\nsecured by the 1945 Constitution and the existing labor
\nlegislations;<\/p>\n
2. The All Indonesian Workers Union (SPSI) has taken
\norganizational reformation from unitary to federation with the
\nestablishment of 13 independent sectoral trade unions which have
\nbeen registered in the Ministry of Manpower in accordance with
\nthe Manpower Ministerial Regulation No PER. 03\/MEN\/1993;<\/p>\n
3. Guidance on the establishment and development of a Trade
\nUnion at plant level (UK SPSI) is regulated under Manpower
\nMinisterial Decision No KEP 438\/MEN\/1992. Other than the above
\nmentioned legislations, the Republic of Indonesia has issued
\nManpower Ministerial Regulation No PER. 01\/MEN\/1994 on Workers'
\nUnions at company level (SPTP), and up to April 1995 a total of
\n734 SPTPs have been established, some of them setting up
\ncollective labor agreements.<\/p>\n
