        "content": "<p>Labor activists get stiffer terms<\/p>\n<p>MEDAN, North Sumatra: The North Sumatra High Court has raised<br>\nthe jail term for labor activist Mochtar Pakpahan from three to<br>\nfour years for his role in a massive riot in April last year.<\/p>\n<p>\"The sentence meted out by the lower court was too light in<br>\ncomparison to the crime he committed,\" Judge Nurat Ginting said<br>\nin his ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Mochtar, the chairman of the Indonesian Prosperous Labor<br>\nUnion, was found guilty by the Medan court of inciting workers to<br>\ncommit violence during the demonstration that left one person<br>\ndead.<\/p>\n<p>The state prosecutors had initially demanded a four-year jail<br>\nterm. They filed an appeal immediately after the verdict by the<br>\nlower court. Mochtar also appealed, demanding a lighter sentence.<\/p>\n<p>The court also raised the jail term for Amosi Telaumbanus,<br>\nanother labor activist convicted of the same crime, from 15<br>\nmonths to three years.
