LA murder probe findings compile<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City Police have started compiling all findings
\nin connection with the Los Angeles triple murder to question more
\npeople domiciled in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"All findings uncovered by Los Angeles Police Department
\nofficers and our police detectives currently investigating the
\ncase in Los Angeles will be compiled to help find individuals who
\nmay have information about the murders,\" city police spokesman
\nLt. Col. Bambang Haryoko told reporters yesterday.<\/p>\n
According to the spokesman, both the Los Angeles Police
\nDepartment and Jakarta police detectives have almost completed
\ncollecting evidence and questioning people in the United States.<\/p>\n
Police have named Harnoko Dewantono, alias Oki, 30, an
\nIndonesian who has spent many years in the United States, as the
\nmain suspect of the triple murder.<\/p>\n
The Los Angeles Police Department has issued a warrant of
\narrest for Oki as the prime suspect in the killing of his brother
\nTri Harto Darmawan, known as Eri, Gina Sutan Aswar, an Indonesian
\nwoman, and Suresh Mirchandani, 45, a man of Indian origin.<\/p>\n
The three, whose bodies were found in a storage locker in
\nAugust last year and identified four months later, were believed
\nto have been killed by the suspect in separate places between
\n1991 and 1993.<\/p>\n
The motive is still unknown but believed to have been business
\nrelated. Gina and Suresh were Oki's business partners.<\/p>\n
Oki was arrested in Central Jakarta on allegations of passport
\nforgery early this month but has since then been questioned about
\nhis alleged role in the triple murder following the Los Angeles
\nPolice Department's warrant.<\/p>\n
In an effort to further investigate the case, Jakarta police,
\nwhich has a limited budget, have sent four detectives to Los
\nAngeles to gather evidence and testimony from people, forensics
\nand medical experts.<\/p>\n
\"They will arrive back on Monday, probably together with Los
\nAngeles Police Department officers,\" Bambang said.<\/p>\n
Ipunk<\/p>\n
So far, police said, at least four people have been questioned
\nin Jakarta.<\/p>\n
They included Oki's ex-wife Anggi Hasti Benjamin Yatim, Oki's
\ndriver Mardi, Oki's ex-girlfriend Ruyalti, known as Ipunk, and
\nEri's girlfriend, identified only as F.<\/p>\n
Ipunk, wife of the late Rifardi Soekarnoputra who was found
\ndead at the house of actress Ria Irawan early last year, was
\nstill with Oki in America in 1991 before their relationship
\nended.<\/p>\n
\"We have asked Ipunk to give her testimony again but up to now
\nwe have had no response from her,\" Bambang said yesterday. \"She
\nmay have moved to another place.\"<\/p>\n
During the first questioning session, Ipunk replied to most of
\nthe police questions with \"I don't know\", a police investigator
\nsaid earlier.<\/p>\n
According to a number of media reports, Ipunk has been named
\nas being able to give details concerning the murder of Suresh
\nMirchandani.<\/p>\n
As police are still investigation the case and discussing the
\nvenue for the trial, the suspect faces the dilemma of naming his
\nlawyers.<\/p>\n
Oki is believed to have named lawyers from Amir Syamsuddin &
\nPartners to defend him while his father, Hendarno Hendarmin,
\nnamed those from Ruhut Sitompoel, Tommy Sihotang & Associates.<\/p>\n
Amir, who met with Oki yesterday, told reporters: \"Oki has not
\nchanged his decision and I'll try to meet his father (to discuss
\nthe issue) soon.\"<\/p>\n
Critics say that Oki's case has been perceived by city lawyers
\nas \"a valuable and promising means\" of promotion. (bsr)<\/p>",
