Kwik's home truths<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan)
\nis the most corrupt party. Surprised? It is not the statement has
\nsurprised people, but the man who made it.<\/p>\n
It was Kwik Kian Gie, head of the PDI Perjuangan's research
\nand development unit and also State Minister of National
\nDevelopment Planning, who 'revealed' the party's malady.<\/p>\n
\"My party is the most corrupt. The PDI Perjuangan is on the
\nbrink of collapse ...\" Kwik told a national meeting on
\nadministrative reform, which was opened by President Megawati
\nSoekarnoputri, who is also the chairwoman of the PDI Perjuangan.<\/p>\n
Kwik is well-known for being controversial and outspoken.
\nHowever, his latest statement was even blunter than usual. Some
\npeople take the view that Kwik's comments are understandable as
\nhe was disappointed by Megawati, who excluded him from her
\neconomy team.<\/p>\n
To other people, Kwik may appear a hero, who has a clear
\nconscience and is able to voice objective criticism.<\/p>\n
Whatever the case, Kwik's statement merits consideration. A
\nlot of the corruption, collusion and nepotism taking place
\nallegedly involves PDI Perjuangan members.<\/p>\n
Frankly speaking, corruption is part of our political culture.
\nTherefore, many politicians attempt to steal as much as money as
\npossible during their terms in office.<\/p>\n
