The office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government\n(KRG) in Iraq was targeted by two drones on Monday (17\/8). The incident\noccurred amid escalating conflict involving Iran and the United States\nin the region.<\/p>\n
The KRG Security Agency stated that both drones were launched from\nIranian territory. However, no group has yet claimed responsibility for\nthe attack. Local authorities reported no casualties in the\nincident.<\/p>\n
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani strongly condemned\nthe attack on his government headquarters. \u201cI condemn in the strongest\nterms this reckless and unacceptable attack,\u201d Barzani said, as quoted by\nAnadolu on Tuesday (18\/8).<\/p>\n
Responding to the incident, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi ordered\nthe formation of an investigative committee. The team is tasked with\ninvestigating the origin of the drones and the party behind the\nattack.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied Tehran\u2019s\ninvolvement. In a telephone conversation with Iraqi Foreign Minister\nFuad Hussein, Araghchi stressed that his side had no information\nindicating the attack originated from Iranian territory. In a post on\nplatform X, he described the attack as a reckless act with no\njustification.<\/p>\n
Araghchi also warned Kurdish groups to be alert to the possibility of\na \u201cfalse flag\u201d operation aimed at shifting responsibility to Iran. He\nrecalled the history of good relations between Iran and the Kurds,\nincluding assistance during the fight against Saddam Hussein\u2019s regime\nand the DAESH (ISIS) terrorist group.<\/p>\n
The Kurdistan Region of Iraq has frequently been targeted by air\nstrikes in recent years.
