        "content": "<p>The Ministry of Religious Affairs has reported that the community\neconomic empowerment programme, based at Religious Affairs Offices\n(KUA), has reached 236 locations in Indonesia as of 2026, supported by\n96 collaborators to expand public access to economic empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough proper collaboration and management, the potential of zakat\nand waqf can be developed into a force for economic, educational,\nsocial, and environmental sustainability,\u201d stated the Director of Zakat\nand Waqf Empowerment, Waryono Abdul Ghafur, in a statement in Jakarta on\nFriday.<\/p>\n<p>Waryono explained that the KUA-based economic empowerment programme\nutilises the strategic role of the KUA at the sub-district level as part\nof an effort to broaden community access to economic empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>The KUA does not only serve as a centre for religious services but\ncan also function as a hub for community economic empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, strengthening family economies through the KUA can\ncontribute to improving the quality of family life while simultaneously\naddressing various social issues.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that cross-sector collaboration is also a vital component in\ndeveloping the national zakat and waqf ecosystem. During the 2026\nNational Zakat and Waqf Empowerment Impact &amp; Collaboration Forum,\nthe Ministry of Religious Affairs brought together various stakeholders\nto strengthen coordination and open new opportunities for\ncooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Parties involved include Baznas, Zakat Amil Institutions, the\nIndonesian Waqf Board, nazirs, Islamic Financial Institutions receiving\ncash waqf, local governments, ministries and agencies, the business\nworld, universities, and communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe development of empowerment programmes requires strengthened\nmentoring, increased capacity for managers, the development of\nproductive assets, expanded access to financing, and monitoring\nsystems,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, KUA-based economic empowerment is positioned as part of\na broader ecosystem to expand the benefits of zakat while strengthening\ncommunity self-reliance.<\/p>",
