KPU website remains vulnerable<\/p>\n

The Jakarta Police cyber crime division has been monitoring
\nhacker communities and says planned websites for vote counting in
\nthe presidential election are likely to be the next hacking
\ntargets.<\/p>\n
\"Based on our investigations, we have found indications these
\nwebsites could be favorite targets for hackers like before (in
\nthe legislative election),\" the division chief Adj. Sr. Comr.
\nPetrus R. Golose said during the weekend.<\/p>\n
\"We have increased the security in the (General Elections
\nCommission or KPU) website, but of course I will not reveal
\nfurther details,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Petrus said police had received reports some hackers had
\nrecently managed to access some companies' websites, including
\nthat of state oil company Pertamina.<\/p>\n
\"They created running texts on the websites, demanding the
\nrelease of fellow hacker Dani Firmansyah,\" he said, adding that
\nDani's mother had requested he be freed but confined to Jakarta,
\nwhich the police had turned down.<\/p>\n
\"We are not treating him like a petty criminal. He's a smart
\nboy and we respect his brain,\" Petrus said.<\/p>\n
Since being detained by police, Dani has been banned from
\nInternet access but is allowed access to writing materials.<\/p>\n
Dani, a final year student with the School of International
\nRelations at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, is being
\nheld for allegedly hacking the KPU website, at
\nhttp:\/\/tnp.kpu.go.id.<\/p>\n
He allegedly managed to break into the website on April 17 and
\nchanged the 24 political parties names into silly ones, including
\nthe Green Clad Party, the Please Don't Be Angry Party, the Please
\nFix the Website Party and the Packaged Drinking Water Party.<\/p>\n
Dani told the police he had only wanted to test the KPU
\nwebsite security system as it was set up with Rp 152 billion
\n(US$17.57 million) of public money.<\/p>\n
He said the system was weak as he did not find it difficult at
\nall to hack into.<\/p>",
