KPKPN asked to warn councillors<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta Governance Watch (JGW) has asked the
\nPublic Servants' Wealth Auditing Commission (KPKPN) to promptly
\nissue a stern warning to all provincial councillors, particularly
\nthose in Jakarta, for not submitting reports on their wealth and
\nassets to the commission.<\/p>\n
JGW's Jakarta chapter chief, Muarif Ambary, said in a written
\nstatement released to The Jakarta Post here on Monday, that the
\nKPKPN should issue the warning twice and that the second warning
\nshould involve sanctions.<\/p>\n
\"If after the second warning, they still refuse to submit
\ntheir wealth reports, then KPKPN can take them to court,\" he
\nsaid, adding that their refusal implied they did not support the
\nnational campaign to eliminate corruption, collusion and
\nnepotism.<\/p>\n
He said that KPKPN had distributed the wealth report forms to
\nthe councillors five months ago, but until now, not one of the
\nprovincial councillors had submitted their wealth report.<\/p>\n
Leaders of The Association of Provincial Councillors had
\nstated that they would only present their reports to KPKPD, a
\nprovincial commission for auditing provincial officials' wealth,
\nwhich has yet to be set up.<\/p>\n
Jakarta councillor Agung Imam Soemanto of the Indonesian
\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) insisted that he
\nwould not submit his wealth report until all provincial councils
\nacross the country agreed to do so.<\/p>\n
\"We demand that the KPKPD be established first,\" Agung of the
\nCity Council's Commission B for economic affairs said.<\/p>\n
But Muarif said, \"Their demand to report to KPKPD was just a
\nploy to justify not reporting their wealth, which had seemingly
\nbeen obtained through corrupt practices.\" He added that the
\nformation of KPKPD would be ineffective and would further burden
