This information emerged as\na development from the sting operation (OTT) conducted by the\nanti-corruption agency earlier in June.<\/p>\n<p>KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the agency has received\nreports from various elements of society regarding similar practices in\nother areas. This information is now being used to enrich the\ninvestigation to dismantle the corruption network within the Directorate\nGeneral of Immigration more broadly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have obtained a number of pieces of information from various\nsources, including the public, who reported alleged corrupt practices in\nother regions. This serves as enrichment for investigators to uncover\nfurther cases of alleged extortion in the processing of stay permits for\nforeign nationals (WNA),\u201d Budi said at the KPK\u2019s Merah Putih Building in\nJakarta on Wednesday night (17\/6\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Budi explained that the previous sting operation at an immigration\noffice served as an entry point for the KPK to target more systematic\ncorrupt practices. The KPK suspects that the extortion scheme in\nimmigration document processing did not occur at just one location, but\nfollows a similar pattern in several regional immigration offices.<\/p>\n<p>The KPK also appealed to the public, especially foreign nationals who\nhave been victims of extortion, to come forward and report. \u201cInformation\nfrom victims is crucial for investigators to see where these practices\noccur and what methods are used,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The case drew public attention after several high-ranking officials\nwithin the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (formerly under the\nMinistry of Law and Human Rights) were named as suspects. One prominent\nname is Silmy Karim, who served as Director General of Immigration for\nthe 2023-2024 period.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Silmy, the KPK also named the Acting Director General\nof Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Muhammad Godam, along\nwith several other echelon officials at both the regional and central\nlevels as suspects.
