        "content": "<p>The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will investigate other\nregions with high concentrations of foreign nationals (WNA) beyond\nJakarta and Bali. This move is part of the ongoing investigation into an\nalleged extortion case related to the processing of residence permits\nfor foreign nationals, which has implicated former Deputy Minister of\nImmigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim.<\/p>\n<p>KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that after targeting Jakarta\nand Bali, the agency will examine the processes and mechanisms for\nprocessing residence permits in other areas with a significant foreign\npopulation. \u201cThe recent sting operation took place in West Jakarta, and\nwe then targeted Bali. Will we target other areas that are major pockets\nfor foreign residents? We will check the process and mechanism for\nprocessing their residence permits,\u201d Budi told reporters in Jakarta on\nFriday (26\/6).<\/p>\n<p>Budi explained that the KPK will study the patterns at immigration\noffices (Kanim) in various regions to further the investigation. \u201cWe\nwill look at the patterns in those immigration offices. We will\ncertainly target them to develop the investigation,\u201d he said. He also\nexpressed appreciation for the information provided by the public, which\nhas enriched the investigative process.<\/p>\n<p>The case originated from a sting operation (OTT) conducted by the KPK\non 2-3 June 2026. During the operation, the team arrested 17\nindividuals, comprising eight state officials and nine private sector\nactors suspected of acting as intermediaries. Silmy Karim subsequently\nsurrendered to the KPK on 3 June 2026. A day later, the KPK named eight\npeople as suspects in the alleged extortion of foreign nationals\u2019\nresidence permits for the 2022-2026 period. The suspects are believed to\nhave profited up to Rp145.5 billion from the scheme.<\/p>",
