Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized
large motorcycles (moge), bicycles, and luxury cars from the residence
of former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim, a
suspect in an alleged extortion case within the Directorate General of
Immigration. Two Harley Davidson motorcycles, one Ducati, and two
Porsche cars were removed from the house located in Kebayoran Baru,
South Jakarta, on Friday evening after investigators conducted a
five-hour search. The motorcycles and a bicycle were seen being
transported on a tow truck. Another tow truck also emerged, but its
cargo was covered with a cloth and could not be positively identified.
The search began at 1:46 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. KPK investigators
arrived at the location under guard by Mobile Brigade (Brimob)
personnel. ‘After the KPK named eight people as suspects in the
investigation of this case yesterday, today the team immediately
conducted a search at the home of one of the suspects, namely SK,’ said
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when confirmed. The KPK believes
additional evidence was obtained from the search. ‘The KPK believes that
in this search there is additional evidence needed by investigators to
help shed light on this case,’ Budi stated. Meanwhile, Silmy’s legal
counsel said they respect the ongoing process, as long as it is carried
out in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Previously, Silmy and seven other immigration officials were detained
and named as suspects in a case of alleged extortion related to
immigration processing for foreign nationals. The KPK suspects Silmy
received money from the extortion scheme from the time he served as
Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights
from January 2023 to October 2024. The case occurred during the period
from 2022 to 2026. According to the anti-corruption commission, this
alleged extortion case originated from the handling of a Foreign
Manpower Utilisation Plan (RPTKA) case at the Ministry of Manpower,
which the KPK has been handling since 2025. ‘So this closed
investigation activity began as a follow-up related to the foreign
manpower utilisation plan case at the Ministry of Manpower that has been
handled by KPK investigators in 2025,’ said KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto
at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday (4/6).
",
