        "content": "<p>The Corruption Eradasting Commission (KPK) has seized a number of\nforeign currencies worth approximately Rp983 million during a sting\noperation (OTT) involving the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin, also\nknown as Ondim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe details are 66,950 Singapore dollars and 11,518 Malaysian\nringgit,\u201d stated the Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK,\nAchmad Taufik Husein, at the KPK Red and White Building, Jakarta, on\nFriday (3\/7) night.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the exchange rate as of 3 July 2026, the value of the\nforeign currency is estimated to reach around Rp983 million.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the foreign currency, the KPK seized Rp247.7 million\nin cash. Investigators also secured Rp100 million in cash from a former\nmember of the North Sumatra Regional House of Representatives (DPRD),\nidentified by the initials SYH.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe KPK team on the ground successfully secured Rp100 million which\nwas found under the seat of the car occupied by SYH,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, investigators discovered 55 pieces of metal, suspected\nto be platinum, with a total weight of approximately 55 kilograms inside\nSyah Afandin\u2019s car.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegarding this evidence, we will later verify its authenticity. We\nwill summon experts to determine whether this platinum metal is\ngenuine,\u201d said Taufik.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also seized several pieces of electronic evidence and\ndocuments related to the case.<\/p>\n<p>On 3 July 2026, the KPK named Syah Afandin and his former 2024\nregional election campaign team member, Yaqub Abdhal Al Mu\u2019arif, as\nsuspects in an alleged bribery case involving projects within the\nLangkat Regency Government for the 2025\u20132026 period.<\/p>\n<p>Syah Afandin is alleged to have received bribes amounting to Rp800\nmillion from a total commitment of Rp1.117 billion provided by Yaqub\nfollowing the award of 80 projects in 2025 to the Langkat Regency\nEducation Office and five projects to the Langkat Regency Housing and\nResidential Areas Office.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the alleged bribery, the KPK suspects that Syah\nAfandin received gratifications amounting to up to Rp3.5 billion related\nto the appointment of sub-district heads (camat), positions within the\nLangkat Regency Education Office, the appointment of primary and junior\nhigh school principals, and the procurement of primary school\nuniforms.<\/p>",
