Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has\nseized a sum of US$1 million that was initially prepared by Yaqut Cholil\nQoumas, during his tenure as Minister of Religious Affairs, for the 2024\nDPR RI Special Committee on Hajj Rights Inquiry.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have carried out the seizure,\u201d said Acting Director of\nInvestigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, at the KPK\u2019s Red and\nWhite Building in Jakarta, on Monday evening (13\/4).<\/p>\n
Achmad explained that the money was seized from an intermediary with\nthe initials ZA and had not yet been distributed to members of the DPR\nRI Hajj Special Committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can confirm that it has not reached the intended parties in the\nspecial committee, so it was still with the intermediary ZA, and that is\nwhere we secured it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, he stated that KPK investigators would delve deeper\ninto the matter, namely the alleged flow of US$1 million from Yaqut to\nthe DPR RI Hajj Special Committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we have just found is limited to that. However, we will\ninvestigate further,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced former Minister of Religious\nAffairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex, as\nYaqut\u2019s special staff, as suspects in the case.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, the owner of the Hajj organiser\nMaktour, was not designated as a suspect, although he was previously\nbanned from leaving the country.<\/p>\n
On 27 February 2026, the KPK received the audit results from the\nFinancial Audit Board (BPK) RI regarding state financial losses in the\nHajj quota case.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, on 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut Cholil at the\nKPK\u2019s Red and White Building State Detention House Branch. On 17 March\n2026, the KPK also detained Ishfah Abidal Aziz at the KPK\u2019s Central\nEducation Anti-Corruption Detention House Branch.<\/p>\n
On the same date, Yaqut Cholil\u2019s family submitted a request for the\nformer Minister of Religious Affairs to be placed under house\narrest.<\/p>\n
The KPK granted the request, so Yaqut has been under house arrest\nsince 19 March 2026. However, on 24 March 2026, the KPK re-detained\nYaqut at the KPK Detention House after previously processing the change\nin detention status.<\/p>\n
