        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has\nseized money amounting to 1 million US dollars in connection with the\nalleged corruption case involving hajj quotas that ensnared former\nMinister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.<\/p>\n<p>KPK Acting Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein stated that\nthe money was allegedly prepared by Yaqut to influence the DPR\u2019s Special\nCommittee (Pansus) on Hajj.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have conducted examinations and subsequently carried out the\nseizure,\u201d Taufik said at the Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Monday\n(13\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Taufik confirmed that the 1 million US dollars was handed over by\nYaqut through his former special staff member, Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias\nGus Alex, to a person designated as an intermediary for the DPR\u2019s Hajj\nSpecial Committee, initialled ZA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe facts we have uncovered confirm that there is a witness named ZA\nwho acted as an intermediary for handing over the money to committee\nmembers. Whether that (1 million US dollars) has been received or\nused\u2014we have delved into this, and as recorded in the minutes, it has\nnot yet been used,\u201d Taufik explained.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, KPK stated that Yaqut had attempted to give 1 million US\ndollars to the DPR\u2019s Hajj Special Committee when it was first formed and\nbegan holding sessions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on statements from witnesses, there was indeed an attempt by\nMr YCQ when this Special Committee was formed and subsequently held\nsessions. So there was an attempt to give something, but it was\nrejected,\u201d said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur\nRahayu on 12 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The money originated from levies imposed on organisers of special\nhajj pilgrimages or hajj travel agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Gus Alex is said to have instructed the Deputy Head of Licensing,\nAccreditation, and Development of Special Hajj Organisers at the\nMinistry of Religious Affairs, M Agus Syafi, to demand a certain amount\nof money from the Special Hajj Pilgrimage Organisers (PIHK).<\/p>\n<p>The levy amounted to at least 2,500 US dollars per pilgrim as an\nadditional fee so that PIHK could obtain additional special hajj\nquotas.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Marwan Dasopang, Chairman of DPR RI Commission VIII who\nwas once a member of the Hajj Special Committee, expressed shock upon\nhearing of the influence attempt revealed by KPK.<\/p>\n<p>Marwan stated that he was unaware of any such attempt during the\nworking process of the DPR\u2019s Hajj Special Committee, which investigated\nissues in the organisation of the 2023-2024 hajj.<\/p>",
