        "content": "<p>The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has finally spoken out\nregarding suggestions that it should take over the alleged corruption\ncase involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes\n(Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah.<\/p>\n<p>KPK Deputy Chairperson Johannis Tanak stressed that the door for\nsupervision and coordination over cases handled by the Police and the\nAttorney General\u2019s Office is indeed wide open. However, he reminded that\nthere are absolute conditions that must be met before the KPK can become\ninvolved. \u201cThe KPK has the authority for that. But there are conditions.\nThe KPK can step in when serious obstacles are found in the\ninvestigation process,\u201d Johannis said on the sidelines of a regional\ncoordination meeting in Makassar on Thursday (23\/7).<\/p>\n<p>Johannis explained that supervision begins from the moment the\nAttorney General\u2019s Office issues a Notice of Commencement of\nInvestigation (SPDP). From this document, the KPK conducts strict\nmonitoring and supervision to ensure the legal process proceeds without\nflaws. \u201cIf a case has not been transferred to court for a year, we will\nask, what is the problem? Why is it taking so long?\u201d he asserted. If\nmonitoring reveals facts of intervention from third parties, whether\npolitical or bureaucratic, the KPK will coordinate or take over the\ncase. \u201cAt that point, we will coordinate and, if necessary, take over\nthe case,\u201d Johannis stated firmly.<\/p>\n<p>Johannis emphasised that based on current reports, the case ensnaring\nthe former Jampidsus is still proceeding according to applicable legal\nprocedures. Therefore, for the time being, the KPK does not have a\nstrong reason to intervene further. \u201cIf the case is proceeding well\naccording to procedure, we cannot simply take it over. We can only step\nin if the case stalls for years or if there are indications of political\nand bureaucratic intervention hindering law enforcement,\u201d he\nconcluded.<\/p>",
