        "content": "<p>The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has acknowledged\nreceiving information regarding alleged extortion within immigration\noffices in several regions. \u201cWe have also obtained a number of pieces of\ninformation from various sources, including the public, who reported\nsuspected corrupt practices occurring in other areas,\u201d said KPK\nSpokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK\u2019s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta\non Wednesday night (17\/6).<\/p>\n<p>According to Budi, this information will enrich the investigation for\nKPK investigators to further uncover or develop the case of alleged\nextortion in the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals\nwithin the Directorate General of Immigration. \u201cThis certainly opens up\npossibilities because these caught-in-the-act events always serve as an\nentry point for the KPK to target a wider scope,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>He therefore encouraged the public or foreign nationals who have been\nvictims not to hesitate in providing information to the KPK.\n\u201cInformation from the public, especially the parties who are victims in\nthis case, is certainly very much needed by investigators to then carry\nout enrichment, including seeing where these practices occur and what\nthe modus operandi are,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, on 2-3 June 2026, the KPK conducted a sting operation\nrelated to alleged corruption in the processing of residence permits for\nforeign nationals. The operation was the 11th sting operation carried\nout by the KPK throughout 2026. In the operation, the KPK arrested 17\npeople consisting of eight state officials or civil servants and nine\nprivate parties suspected of acting as intermediaries for immigration\ndocument processing.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim\nvisited the KPK on 3 June 2026 to surrender himself. On 4 June 2026, the\nKPK named eight people as suspects in the alleged extortion case\ninvolving the processing of foreign nationals\u2019 residence permits during\nthe 2022-2026 period within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, which\nlater transitioned to the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections. The\nsuspects are alleged to have obtained profits amounting to Rp145.5\nbillion from the practice.<\/p>\n<p>The eight suspects include Silmy Karim, who served as Director\nGeneral of Immigration for the 2023-2024 period; Acting Director General\nof Immigration for the 2024-2025 period Saffar Muhammad Godam; Head of\nthe West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration\nJaya Saputra, who previously served as Director of Residence Permits and\nImmigration Status for the 2024-2025 period; and Head of the Class I\nSpecial Non-TPI Immigration Office for West Jakarta Ronald Arman\nAbdullah. Other suspects are Head of Subdirectorate at the Directorate\nof Residence Permits and Immigration Status Tessar Bayu Setyaji and\nBagus Bramantyo, Head of the Limited Stay Permit Status Transfer Team\nJuniadi Sri Priambudi, and Staff of the Residence Permit Subdirectorate\nGusti Benardiansyah.<\/p>",
