        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2014 The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that\nit is monitoring the issue surrounding East Kalimantan Governor Rudy\nMas\u2019ud\u2019s official vehicle purchase valued at Rp8.5 billion, which has\nbeen generating considerable discussion among the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has indeed been quite prominent on social media, and we are also\nfollowing the reporting on the matter,\u201d said KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo\nin a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Friday (27 February).<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Budi stated that the KPK has reminded Rudy Mas\u2019ud that\nexpenditure of provincial budgets must be based on thorough planning and\nshould correspond with actual needs.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the KPK issued this reminder because the\nprocurement of goods and services sector frequently presents\nopportunities for corrupt practices. \u201cProcurement of goods and services\nis often an area where corruption can occur. Bid manipulation, price\ninflation, specification downgrades\u2014all of these require proper scrutiny\nto ensure mechanisms are being implemented correctly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, he stated that the KPK has cautioned against situations\nwhere actual needs are for item A, but the East Kalimantan Provincial\nGovernment then spends the budget on item B.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Mas\u2019ud came under public scrutiny for claiming that the\nRp8.5 billion official vehicle procurement was necessary to uphold the\ndignity of East Kalimantan. He also asserted that the purchase of the\nvehicle with those specifications complied with the Minister of Home\nAffairs Regulation (Permendagri).<\/p>\n<p>In a separate statement, Golkar Party General Secretary Muhammad\nSarmuji disclosed that the party had already advised Mas\u2019ud, as a party\nmember, regarding his statements about the official vehicle. Sarmuji\nstated that Golkar had urged the East Kalimantan Governor to be more\nattentive to public sentiment whilst pursuing efficiency measures.<\/p>",
