        "content": "<p>The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has questioned former\nTransport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on Monday, 9 March 2026, regarding\nprocurement processes within the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA)\nunder the Transport Ministry and connections to members of Commission V\nof the House of Representatives who served as working partners with the\nministry.<\/p>\n<p>The questioning took place at the Semarang office of the Financial\nand Development Supervisory Board (BPKP) in Central Java.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this questioning, investigators examined the witness\u2019s knowledge\nof the processes and mechanisms used in procurement at the DJKA,\u201d said\nKPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists on Tuesday, 10 March\n2026.<\/p>\n<p>Budi Karya Sumadi was asked to explain the implementation of the\nprocurement process in his capacity as Transport Minister at the time\nthe alleged incidents occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Budi Karya Sumadi\u2019s legal representative, Tri Hartanto, confirmed\nthat his client complied with the KPK\u2019s summons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe responded to the invitation,\u201d said Tri.<\/p>\n<p>The case began with a surprise raid conducted by the KPK on 11 April\n2023 at the Class I Railway Engineering Centre for Central Java Region\nof the DJKA Transport Ministry. The centre has since been renamed the\nSemarang Class I Railway Engineering Centre.<\/p>\n<p>The KPK subsequently named 10 suspects who were immediately detained\nin connection with alleged corruption in railway construction and\nmaintenance projects across Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi. As of 20\nJanuary 2026, the KPK had named and detained a total of 21 suspects. The\nKPK has also named two corporations as suspects in the case.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged corruption offences relate to several railway projects:\nthe construction of a dual-track railway line between Solo\nBalapan-Kadipiro-Kalioso; railway construction in Makassar, South\nSulawesi; four railway construction projects and two supervision\nprojects in Lampegan Cianjur, West Java; and a railway crossing\nimprovement project spanning Java and Sumatra.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators allege that the winner of these projects was determined\nthrough manipulation by certain parties, from the administrative process\nthrough to the announcement of tender winners.<\/p>\n<p>Budi Karya Sumadi was previously questioned by the KPK in this case.\nHe was last questioned as a witness in the DJKA corruption case on 26\nJuly 2023.<\/p>",
