Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradancy Commission (KPK)\ninterrogated a staff member from the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI)\nin Kuching, Malaysia, with the initials THR, as a witness in the alleged\nextortion case involving former Deputy Minister of Immigration and\nCorrectional Services, Silmy Karim, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is correct, investigators are conducting follow-up examinations\nof one of the witnesses in the Imipas case,\u201d said KPK Spokesperson Budi\nPrasetyo at the KPK Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
According to Budi, the KPK is examining the witness in their capacity\nas a former civil servant within the Directorate General of\nImmigration.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe witness is being investigated in relation to their position\nwhile serving at the Directorate General of Immigration, specifically\nwithin the unit responsible for foreign national residence permits,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s examination of the witness also delves into the receipt or\ncollection of funds conducted within the Directorate General of\nImmigration regarding services for foreign national residence permits,\u201d\nhe added.<\/p>\n
The case originated when the KPK conducted a sting operation (OTT)\nrelated to alleged corruption in the processing of foreign national\nresidence permits.<\/p>\n
During the series of sting operations, Silmy Karim, who was serving\nas the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services at the\ntime, surrendered himself to the KPK.<\/p>\n
On 4 June 2026, the KPK named eight individuals as suspects in the\nalleged extortion case involving foreign national residence permits for\nthe 2022\u20132026 period within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, which\nsubsequently became the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional\nServices.<\/p>\n
The six other suspects include the Head of the West Java Regional\nOffice of the Directorate General of Immigration, Jaya Saputra; the Head\nof the Class I Special Non-TPI Immigration Office of West Jakarta,\nRonald Arman Abdullah; the Head of the Sub-directorate of Residence\nPermits and Immigration Status, Tessar Bayu Setyaji and Bagus Bramantyo;\nthe Head of the Limited Residence Permit Status Change Team, Juniadi Sri\nPriambudi; and a staff member of the Residence Permit Sub-directorate,\nGusti Benardiansyah.<\/p>\n
