The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has concluded its\nexamination of cigarette entrepreneur Khairul Umam, alias Haji Her, in\nthe investigation into alleged corruption within the Directorate General\nof Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, on Thursday, 9 April\n2026.<\/p>\n
In the case, KPK examined Haji Her in his capacity as a witness to\ndelve deeper into the cigarette excise processing carried out by the\ntobacco entrepreneur from Madura.<\/p>\n
\u201cInvestigators conducted an examination of witness Mr KU or Mr HR,\nwhere in this examination, investigators delved into how Mr HR handled\nexcise processing,\u201d said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists\nat the KPK Red and White Building in South Jakarta, on Thursday, 9 April\n2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow the mechanisms work in the field. Whether they comply with the\nnew procedures at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise in\nhandling those excises,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Budi assured that investigators are continuing to examine various\ncigarette companies to delve deeper into the handling of cigarette\nexcise stamps, enabling the sale or distribution of their cigarette\nproducts.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will see how it develops. For now, we are focusing on the\ncigarette companies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Besides Haji Her, Budi said KPK also summoned two other witnesses,\nnamely a self-employed individual with initials WLG and a Customs and\nExcise employee with initials SA.<\/p>\n
After being examined by KPK, Khairul Umam alias Haji Her claimed that\ninvestigators questioned him about his acquaintances with the suspects\nin the alleged corruption case at the Directorate General of Customs and\nExcise, Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, it was just confirmation, asked if I know the suspects, and I\nanswered that I don\u2019t know them,\u201d said Haji Her to journalists after\nbeing examined by KPK at the KPK Red and White Building in Jakarta, on\nThursday, 9 April 2026.<\/p>\n
Haji Her claimed he had answered all questions from KPK honestly.\n\u201cYes, I answered everything as it is. Madurese people are\nstraightforward. Nothing complicated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
This case originated from a sting operation related to alleged\ncorruption within the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the\nMinistry of Finance on 4 February 2026.
