The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Moch Mahrus\n(MM), a member of the East Java Provincial Parliament (DPRD) for the\n2024\u20132029 period, who is suspected of bribing Anwar Sadad, a member of\nthe Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2024\u20132029\nperiod. \u201cThe detention is for the first 20 days, from 28 July to 16\nAugust 2026. The detention is being carried out at the KPK\u2019s Gedung\nMerah Putih branch detention centre,\u201d said KPK Spokesperson Budi\nPrasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Tuesday (28\/7).<\/p>\n

Budi explained that the KPK detained MM after he was previously named\na suspect in a case of alleged corruption in the management of grant\nfunds for community groups (pokmas) within the East Java Provincial\nGovernment for the 2019\u20132022 fiscal year. He also explained that MM was\nnamed a suspect and subsequently detained in his capacity as a manager\nof the pokmas grant funds in Probolinggo Regency.<\/p>\n

\u201cMM is suspected of giving Rp1.5 billion in cash, approximately one\nkilogramme of gold, and paying off a house in Surabaya, as well as\nestablishing an SPBE (bulk LPG filling station) business for AS through\nBagus Wahyudiono (BGS),\u201d he stated. According to Budi, the suspect MM\nallegedly gave or paid for these assets as a bribe to secure an\nallocation of pokmas grant funds belonging to Anwar Sadad, who was the\nDeputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD for the 2019\u20132024 period, totalling\nRp83.4 billion.<\/p>\n

Consequently, Budi stated that MM, as the alleged bribe-giver, is\ncharged with violating Article 5 paragraph (1) letter a or letter b, or\nArticle 13 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of\nCriminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in\nconjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the old Criminal Code\n(KUHP).<\/p>\n

Previously, the KPK announced that it had named 21 suspects in the\ndevelopment of the investigation into the alleged corruption case\ninvolving East Java grant funds. The case development relates to a sting\noperation in December 2022 targeting the Deputy Speaker of the East Java\nDPRD for 2019\u20132024, Sahat Tua Simanjuntak. On 2 October 2025, the KPK\nannounced the identities of the 21 suspects. However, on 16 December\n2025, the KPK halted the investigation for one suspect, East Java DPRD\nSpeaker for 2019\u20132024 Kusnadi, who had passed away.
