Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has\ndetained Moch Mahrus (MM), a member of the East Java Provincial Council\n(DPRD) for the 2024\u20132029 term, who is suspected of bribing Anwar Sadad,\na member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) for 2024\u20132029.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe detention is for the first 20 days, running from 28 July to 16\nAugust 2026. He is being held at the State Detention Centre branch of\nthe KPK\u2019s Red-and-White Building,\u201d KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told\njournalists in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Budi explained that the KPK detained MM because he had previously\nbeen named a suspect in a corruption case involving the management of\ngrant funds for community groups (pokmas) at the East Java Provincial\nGovernment in the 2019\u20132022 budget years.<\/p>\n

He added that MM was named a suspect and then detained in his\ncapacity as the manager of pokmas grant funds in Probolinggo\nRegency.<\/p>\n

\u201cMM is suspected of giving money amounting to Rp1.5 billion, gold\nweighing about one kilogram, the full settlement payment for a house in\nSurabaya, and the establishment of an SPBE (bulk LPG filling station)\nbusiness to AS via BGS (Bagus Wahyudiono, a staff member of Anwar\nSadad),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to Budi, MM is suspected of giving or paying for these\nassets as bribes in order to obtain pokmas grant funds allocated by\nAnwar Sadad as Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD for 2019\u20132024,\ntotalling Rp83.4 billion.<\/p>\n

Budi said that MM, as the alleged bribe giver, is therefore charged\nunder Article 5 paragraph (1) letter a or letter b, or Article 13 of Law\nNumber 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, as\namended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55\nparagraph (1) first of the old Criminal Code.<\/p>\n

Previously, the KPK announced it had named 21 suspects in the\ndevelopment of its investigation into the alleged corruption of East\nJava grant funds.<\/p>\n

The case development stemmed from a sting operation in December 2022\nagainst Sahat Tua Simanjuntak, Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD for\n2019\u20132024.<\/p>\n

On 2 October 2025, the KPK announced the identities of the 21\nsuspects. However, on 16 December 2025, the KPK halted the investigation\ninto one suspect who had passed away, namely Kusnadi, Speaker of the\nEast Java DPRD for 2019\u20132024.<\/p>\n
