The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed details of a\nsting operation (OTT) conducted against Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu\nWibowo (GSW). The KPK stated that the OTT took place during the handover\nof extortion money from a Head of Regional Device Organisation (OPD) to\nRegent Gatut in the Pendopo of the Tulungagung Regency Government.<\/p>\n
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that the investigative team\ninitially received information about a planned handover of money from an\nOPD head to the Regent in the pendopo. The money is suspected to be the\nproceeds of extortion carried out by Regent Gatut against one of the\nOPDs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe team received information about a planned handover of money from\none of the agencies to the Regent. It was triggered by the Regent\u2019s\nneeds, so a sum of money was prepared,\u201d Budi said during a press\nconference at the KPK building in South Jakarta on Saturday\n(11\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd the handover of the money was done through intermediaries, both\nthe giver\u2019s intermediary and the recipient\u2019s intermediary from the\nRegent\u2019s side, in this case Mr YOG, where the handover took place in the\npendopo,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
After the money was handed over, the investigative team immediately\nsecured the parties present in the pendopo at the time, including the\nevidence in the form of the money to be handed over.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter the handover, the team secured the parties and the evidence.\nIncluding in the form of cash, so the total cash secured in this sting\noperation is Rp335 million,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Budi noted that the Rp335 million secured is part of the total\nalleged receipts already obtained by the Regent, amounting to around\nRp2.7 billion. The billions in money were obtained from 16 OPDs in the\nTulungagung Regency area.<\/p>\n
In addition to the money, investigators also secured evidence in the\nform of four pairs of shoes. Budi said that Regent Gatut always demanded\nreimbursement for the shoes he had purchased.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is why we also show it, because from the facts obtained by the\nteam, the Regent always carried out reimbursements or demanded\ncompensation for expenses that had already been incurred,\u201d Budi\nexplained.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven for the purchase of those shoes, he demanded that the costs be\ncovered by the regional devices or OPDs. As well as costs for medical\nneeds, dining arrangements, and other personal expenses,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
He explained that the four pairs of shoes secured consisted of\nseveral, one of which was a luxury brand from Louis Vuitton (LV). If\ntotalled, the four pairs of shoes have a value of up to Rp129\nmillion.<\/p>\n
Regent Threatens Officials with Resignation Letters<\/p>\n
It is known that Regent Gatut threatened his officials with\nresignation statements if they did not comply with his demands. KPK\nDeputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu initially\nexplained that the Regent Sunu\u2019s demands were conveyed to his officials\nafter they were inaugurated.<\/p>\n
He immediately instructed his officials to sign resignation\nstatements from their positions and to resign from the civil\nservice.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter the inauguration, GSW asked the officials to sign resignation\nstatements from their positions and to resign from the civil service if\nthey were unable to carry out the tasks and responsibilities given,\u201d\nAsep said during the press conference on Saturday (11\/4).<\/p>\n
He stated that his officials were also asked to sign statements of\nresponsibility for budget management in their respective work units.\nAsep said that the resignation statements from positions and civil\nservice were deliberately made to pressure the officials.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe resignation statements from positions and civil service were\ndeliberately left undated, and copies were not given to the officials.\nThis document was then allegedly used by GSW as a means to control and\n\u2018pressure\u2019 the officials to be loyal and obey every order from GSW.\nThose who were not \u2018straight\u2019 to the Regent would be threatened with\ndismissal from their positions or even resignation from civil service,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Indeed, Asep noted that his officials were then asked to hand over a\nsum of money to Regent Gatut. The money demand reached Rp5 billion.<\/p>\n
