The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) states that the transfer
of the detention status of suspect Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in the alleged
corruption case of the 2023-2024 Hajj quotas from state detention house
(Rutan) to house arrest has been carried out in accordance with
procedures and legal provisions. This was conveyed by the KPK in
response to the ethics complaint submitted by the Indonesian
Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) to the KPK Supervisory Board today,
Wednesday (25/3). “The KPK assures that all processes and steps taken
have been carried out in accordance with the mechanisms, procedures, and
applicable legal regulations,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when
confirmed via written message, Wednesday (25/3). Budi explained that the
transfer of detention status followed up on a request from Yaqut’s
family. Considering Article 108 paragraphs 1 and 11 of Law Number 20 of
2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK granted it. During
the implementation of the detention transfer, the KPK conducted attached
supervision and security for Yaqut. Budi added that the KPK respects the
ethics complaint submitted by MAKI as it represents public participation
in maintaining the accountability and integrity of the anti-corruption
institution. “We believe the Supervisory Board will follow up on the
report objectively, professionally, and independently,” said Budi. “In
the future, the KPK will remain committed to carrying out its
anti-corruption duties transparently, accountably, and responsibly,
while being open to all forms of supervision as part of efforts to
maintain public trust,” he stated. Previously, MAKI Coordinator Boyamin
Saiman said the transfer of detention status for former Indonesian
Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut was legally flawed because it did
not go through a collective collegial decision by the KPK leadership.
For this reason, he filed an ethics complaint report to the KPK
Supervisory Board. The respondents consist of five KPK leaders, KPK
Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu, and KPK
Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo. “We request the KPK Supervisory Board to
conduct an ethics examination of the parties in the KPK environment who
took or approved the decision to transfer the detention of suspect Yaqut
Cholil Qoumas,” said Boyamin at the KPK Office, Jakarta, Wednesday
(25/3).
",
