The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that\ncorruption cases emerging in the education sector pose a serious threat\nto Indonesia\u2019s future. The KPK said such corruption is not merely a\nlegal matter.<\/p>\n
This was the KPK\u2019s response after Universitas Soedirman (Unsoed)\nRector Akhmad Sodiq became entangled in a case of alleged extortion and\ngratuities related to the admission of new students through the\nindependent pathway. Sodiq was caught in a KPK sting operation (OTT) in\nconnection with the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cCorruption occurring in the education sector is not merely a\nviolation of the law, but a serious threat to academic tradition and\nIndonesia\u2019s future,\u201d said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a statement\non Monday (24\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
The KPK stated that corruption in education not only harms the state\nbut also the nation\u2019s generation, as they are deprived of their right to\nquality, fair and integrity-based education. Therefore, the KPK will\nintensify its efforts to eradicate corruption in the education\nsector.<\/p>\n
\u201cUniversities are the bastion of the nation\u2019s integrity. Therefore,\neradicating corruption on campus cannot be achieved through enforcement\nalone, but must be strengthened with prevention, anti-corruption\neducation, and active public participation,\u201d Budi said.<\/p>\n
The KPK also recognises that campuses play a vital role in developing\nknowledge, shaping character, and producing future leaders. The KPK\nhopes that a preventive approach can improve university governance to\nbecome transparent, accountable, and free from conflicts of\ninterest.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that the problems revealed in the sting operation at Unsoed\nserve as a wake-up call for all of us to re-examine our commitments and\nrespond with real, comprehensive and more serious corrective measures,\u201d\nBudi said.<\/p>\n
Previously, the KPK announced Akhmad Sodiq as a suspect in an alleged\ncorruption case related to the new student admission process at Unsoed.\nIn this case, Sodiq sought to profit from the admission of new students\nthrough the independent pathway.<\/p>\n
In carrying out his actions, Sodiq was \u201cassisted\u201d by Vice Rector III\nNorman Arie Prayogo, Head of Academic Affairs Eko Sumanto, and three\nprivate parties, namely Dian Mulia Wardhana, Adhi Wiharto, and Mulyono,\nwho is Akhmad Sodiq\u2019s nephew.<\/p>\n
The suspects are currently detained for the first 20 days from 21\nAugust to 9 September 2026 at the KPK detention centre in the Merah\nPutih building.
