KPC workers back on strike<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Coal mining company PT Kaltim Prima Coal halted
\nits operations once more on Wednesday as workers backed away from
\nnegotiations and blockaded the company's mine in Sanggata
\nregency, East Kalimantan, an executive at the company said on
\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
This was the third time within the past two months that KPC
\nwas forced to stop its operations, damaging the company's ability
\nto serve its customers.<\/p>\n
KPC general manager Thierry Brunner said the workers
\nunexpectedly rejected KPC's final offer, despite earlier signs
\nthey would give their approval.<\/p>\n
He said KPC had agreed to give the workers a raise but in
\nreturn demanded the workers give assurances they would no longer
\nblockade the mine and would comply with all existing work
\nregulations.<\/p>\n
\"We can't properly run our business if work regulations are
\nnot respected,\" he told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
KPC earlier expressed fear it would lose customers if it did
\nnot receive a guarantee from workers they would not disturb the
\ncompany's operations in the future.(bkm)<\/p>",
