Waskito was reacting to a statement made by Suryatna Soebrata
\nwho said that the law guarantees government employees the freedom
\nto vote for the party of their choice.<\/p>\n
As a layman in politics, I would like to contribute my opinion
\nin a simple way. There are at least two or three high ranking
\ngovernment officials who have different opinions on matters
\nconcerning general elections in Indonesia. It is saddening that
\nsuch disagreements happen openly between senior government
\nofficials. The public may get a bad impression about the way
\ngovernment officials cooperate and manage government affairs.<\/p>\n
According to existing rules, the general election in this
\ncountry is based on the principle of LUBER -- langsung, umum,
\nbebas, rahasia (direct, public, free and secret). This means that
\neven one's superior may not know what one votes. Waskito's harsh
\ncomments certainly do not meet with public expectations,
\nespecially the Korpri members' aspirations. It is insulting and
\ninhuman to suggest that Korpri members leave their jobs if they
\ndo not vote for Golkar.<\/p>\n
Frankly speaking, Golkar has performed positively in serving
\nthe country, especially in the difficult post-Communist era. So
\nGolkar insists that it must win the coming election. It is a fair
\nideal, but it should not be achieved at all costs. Rules and
\nregulations must be observed to achieve the aspired goal.<\/p>\n
