Jakarta, VIVA – The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps
(Kakorlantas) Polri, Irjen Pol Agus Suryonugroho, received an audience
from the management of Green SM Taxi to discuss improvements in safety
and transportation governance, following several accident incidents that
have drawn public attention.

In the meeting, Irjen Agus emphasised that the approach prioritised
is not solely law enforcement, but collaboration with transportation
business actors. He stated that Korlantas aims to foster a more
communicative working pattern to encourage joint improvements.

“I am not proud of carrying out law enforcement, but I would be
pleased to collaborate and communicate with partners to find the best
solutions,” said Agus.

He explained that every accident incident must be viewed
comprehensively. According to him, accident causes are not only from
driver factors or human error, but can also be influenced by vehicle
conditions, company management, and even road and environmental
factors.

“It is not absolute that the fault lies with the driver. It could
also be from the vehicle or management. Even corporations can share
responsibility,” he said.

Agus also highlighted the importance of evaluating accident
incidents, including those at level crossings with trains. He affirmed
that accident analysis results can serve as a basis for improving
supervision systems and transportation company governance.

In addition, Korlantas encourages the implementation of a traffic
attitude record system to monitor driver behaviour in an integrated
manner, including violation data recorded through the electronic
ticketing system (ETLE). This step is deemed important to ensure drivers
have competence as well as good driving behaviour.

Agus also offered a retraining programme for drivers through the
Indonesia Safety Driving Center (ISDC), as an effort to enhance
discipline and traffic safety awareness.

“From around 10,000 drivers, there needs to be control and guidance.
They can be retrained to be more disciplined and compliant,” he
said.

In response, the Director of Green SM Taxi, Denny Gunawan, conveyed
that his side welcomes the collaboration plan. He also expressed
sympathy for the incidents that occurred and assured that the company
has taken initial steps, including contacting the victims.

“At the same time, we sympathise with the events that took place.
